Install the beta
RIFT isn't on the Play Store yet, so Android shows a few warnings. Here's what to tap.
- Why the warnings
- 1. Download
- 2. Allow the install
- 3. Play Protect
- 4. Your phone's check
- 5. Turn on RIFT
- 6. Keep it running
- Still stuck?
Why the warnings?
RIFT taps the game for you using Accessibility. Android is careful with any app outside the Play Store that does this. RIFT only taps inside games it supports, and your camera feed never leaves your phone.
Only install RIFT from the link in our email. We'll never call you and ask you to change a setting.
Download the app
Open the link from our email in Chrome, on the phone that will watch you. If Chrome asks:
File might be harmful
Do you want to download rift.apk anyway?
CancelDownload anyway
Tap Download anyway. Chrome says this for every app file.
Allow the install
Tap Open, or find rift.apk in Files under Downloads. The first time, Android says:
For your security, your phone currently isn't allowed to install unknown apps from this source. You can change this in Settings.
CancelSettings
Tap Settings, turn on Allow from this source, go back and tap Install. This doesn't work during a phone call.
Get past Play Protect
Google Play Protect checks every new app. Tap the message you see:
App blocked to protect your device
This one has no install button. It's Google's fraud protection, which blocks apps from outside the Play Store that use Accessibility. Pause Play Protect for a moment:
- Open the Play Store and tap your profile picture.
- Tap Play Protect, then the gear icon.
- Turn off Scan apps with Play Protect, or tap Pause.
- Install rift.apk again from Files.
- Turn scanning back on.
If anyone asks you to do this on a call, it's a scam. Hang up.
App scan recommended
Tap Scan app, then Install when it's done.
Send app for security check?
Any choice works. Don't send is fine.
Unsafe app blocked
Tap More details, then Install anyway.
Your phone's own check
Some brands add their own check. Look for the button that lets you carry on.
Samsung
Turn off Auto Blocker in Settings, Security and privacy. Install RIFT, then turn it back on.
Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO
Wait for the security scan, then tap Install anyway. It may make you wait about 10 seconds.
vivo, iQOO
Let the security check finish and choose to continue. Sign in to your vivo account if it asks.
OnePlus, OPPO, realme
If it says it found a risk, tap Install anyway and confirm with your PIN or account.
Turn on RIFT
Open RIFT. Setup takes you to Accessibility. Tap RIFT and turn it on. The first time, Android blocks it:
Restricted setting
For your security, this setting is currently unavailable.
OK
- Tap OK. You need to see this once.
- Go to Settings, Apps, RIFT.
- Tap ⋮ at the top, then Allow restricted settings.
- Go back to Accessibility and turn RIFT on.
Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO
Find RIFT in Settings, Apps, Manage apps. Accessibility is under Additional settings, then Downloaded apps.
Samsung
Allow restricted settings may be right on RIFT's App info page.
Keep RIFT running
Phones put apps to sleep to save battery, which stops your controls. On every phone:
- Lock RIFT in your recent apps.
- Never Force stop RIFT or use cleaner apps. They switch RIFT off in Accessibility.
Pixel and most phones
Settings, Apps, RIFT, App battery usage: choose Unrestricted.
Samsung
Set RIFT's battery to Unrestricted and add it to Never sleeping apps.
Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO
Turn on Autostart and set Battery saver to No restrictions.
vivo, iQOO
Settings, Battery, Background power consumption: allow RIFT. Turn on Autostart too.
OnePlus, OPPO, realme
Set battery to Don't optimise and turn on Auto launch.
